What the Journalist Asks, and What Ends Up In the Article
A little snapshot for those who don't know how things work
First of all, no shade on this journalist. I’m very honoured that this person reached out to me - once I realized it was a real ask, it made my day! Yay! It always feels good to be ‘known’ as a person in the community who is relevant, with something of consequence to say. I’ll never be sad at receiving a media request.
But after many years in the public eye - I don’t talk about it a ton, but I’ve been in multiple documentaries, newspapers, and magazines worldwide - I’ve noticed something about my experience as a “source” that I just wanted to reveal for anyone who hasn’t themselves been through it. Maybe you don’t know anyone in the public eye. That’s cool, most people don’t - and to be honest, I didn’t really understand how “the media” worked until I was the subject of it, again and again.
And one thing I learned is that 97% of what I say tends to get cut out.
